Search engines, not social sites, continue to be the most important driver of traffic to most kinds of websites, according to a Citigroup study based on comScore data. But Facebook and other social networks are an increasingly important source of hits for media sites -- a trend that may be leading the media to assign too much importance to social traffic in general, writes Peter Kafka. "The reason that Web sites that write stories about other Web sites are writing about Google's stall and Facebook's rise is because it seems to be true -- for some media sites.
